Self-drive or chauffeur-driven? Here's how to match the right vehicle and service to your trip, from solo city travel to family safaris and corporate group transport.
01
Every car rental FAQ jumps straight to pricing, but the better first question is: what does your week actually look like? A solo business trip between Nairobi meetings has completely different needs than a family safari to Amboseli, and our fleet is priced and built around that difference rather than a one-size-fits-all rate card.
02
If you're confident navigating Nairobi traffic and know your route, self-drive options like the Toyota RAV4/Vanguard, Toyota Axio-class saloons, or the Toyota Land Cruiser V8 give you full control of your schedule at a lower daily rate than a chauffeured equivalent. It suits repeat visitors, expats, and anyone doing short, familiar routes where flexibility matters more than having someone else handle the driving.
03
First-time visitors, corporate travelers, and anyone heading into unfamiliar territory — rural roads, park access tracks, or simply Nairobi's notorious rush hour — tend to get far more out of a chauffeur-driven booking. Vehicles like the Executive Toyota Alphard, our 8-seater luxury tour vans, and the 4x4 Safari Land Cruiser (70 Series) all come with drivers who know the roads, the checkpoints, and often the wildlife-viewing shortcuts that don't show up on Google Maps.
04
Solo or couple city trips: a sedan or RAV4 is plenty. Family safaris: the Toyota Noah/Voxy or Alphard give you luggage room without the diesel bill of a bigger 4x4. Groups and corporate events: our 10-14 seater executive vans or the 22-28 seater coaster bus handle weddings, team outings, and conference transport without needing multiple bookings. Serious off-road game drives: the 4x4 Safari Land Cruiser (70 Series) is built for exactly that terrain.
05
Self-drive bookings require a valid driving license (front and back), a national ID or passport copy, and in most cases a security deposit held against the vehicle. Chauffeur bookings are lighter on paperwork since you're not the one behind the wheel, but pickup location, flight number (for airport starts), and your preferred pickup time still need to be locked in ahead of arrival to avoid delays.
Whichever way you go, book early for weekends and event dates — our fleet moves fast during peak safari season and rally weekends. Browse the full fleet and rates here.
