Switzerland rewards slow travel. The trains are the attraction as much as the destinations — the Glacier Express crosses 291 bridges and 91 tunnels in eight hours, the Bernina Express climbs to 2,253 metres and passes within a few metres of a glacier, and the GoldenPass runs a panoramic route through vineyards and lakes. This trip is built around riding all three.
Base towns are chosen for scenery rather than city convenience — Lucerne for the lake, Interlaken for the alpine betweenness, Zermatt for the Matterhorn. Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe at 3,454m, is a full-day affair with the Ice Palace and the Aletsch Glacier viewpoint. Everything is walkable, punctual, and pre-booked.

Arrival: Land at Zurich Airport. Private transfer to your hotel in the old town or near the lake.
Evening: Orientation walk through the Niederdorf and along the Limmat. Dinner at a traditional Swiss restaurant.

Morning: Breakfast. Train to Lucerne (45 minutes).
Late Morning: Guided old-town walk — Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke), Water Tower, Lion Monument, and the Musegg Wall.
Afternoon: Lake Lucerne panoramic cruise (1 hour).
Evening: Free time. Optional visit to the Swiss Museum of Transport.
Overnight: Lucerne.

Morning: Breakfast. Board the GoldenPass panoramic train to Interlaken (approx. 2 hours via Brünig Pass).
Afternoon: Arrival in Interlaken. Check in. Free time to walk between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, or take the funicular up Harder Kulm for the classic view.
Evening: Dinner at leisure.
Overnight: Interlaken.

Early Morning: Breakfast. Depart for Jungfraujoch via Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen (full-day excursion).
Late Morning: Cog railway climb to Jungfraujoch (3,454m) — the highest railway station in Europe. Visit the Ice Palace, the Sphinx observation deck, and the Aletsch Glacier viewpoint.
Afternoon: Return to Interlaken.
Evening: Free time.
Overnight: Interlaken.

Morning: Breakfast and check out. Board the Glacier Express (or an earlier connecting train) toward Zermatt.
Midday: Panoramic rail through the Oberalp Pass, Rhine Gorge, and 291 bridges.
Afternoon: Arrival in Zermatt (car-free village). Check into your hotel.
Evening: Evening walk with the Matterhorn in view. Dinner at a traditional Walliser restaurant.
Overnight: Zermatt.

Afternoon: Optional Matterhorn Glacier Paradise — the highest cable car station in Europe (3,883m) with a year-round glacier palace.

Morning: Breakfast. Return by train to Zurich (approx. 3.5 hours) OR — if you've extended the trip — head to St. Moritz for the Bernina Express.
Afternoon: Arrival in Zurich. Free time for last shopping or a walk around the lake.
Evening: Farewell dinner.
